The Library’s mission is to provide comprehensive collections, quality services and engaging spaces to support the education, research and community service mission of Mekelle University. The library promotes the development of self-learning and meets users’ evolving needs and expectation through the provision of open access to cultural, intellectual, and informational resources both in print and digital format. The Library’s physical and virtual spaces respond to the changing habits of its users to enrich the campus experience and to the dynamic information landscape in the 21st century.

Vision Statements

The University Library seeks to build a comprehensive digital library collection that is among the best in Ethiopia as well as re-invent the way the library connects information seekers with librarians and information sources.

The Main Goalsof the Library

  1. Build a comprehensive COLLECTION by developing, acquiring, preserving and organizing materials both in print and digital format that support the educational and research needs and aspirations of Mekelle University.

  2. Deliver quality SERVICES using appropriate information technology which enable users to access the collections representing a broad spectrum of knowledge on a variety of subjects and in a variety of formats.

  3. Provide engaging SPACES, both physical and virtual, that encourages research, teaching, learning, and collaboration among students and staff.

  4. Recruit and retain a diverse STAFF committed to service excellence, continuous learning, and leadership within the library profession as well as responsive to the needs of the University community.
