Haramaya University-Agricultural Economics is among the pioneer sections which were initiated in 1960 to produce qualified BSc graduates in agricultural economics. Agribusiness management program graduated its first batch of B.Sc. program in 2005.Agribusiness management curriculum is revised and the program name is changed to Agribusiness and Value Chain management (ABVM) and its first B.Sc. batch is going to graduate this year (2014). In the same field (ABVM), our school started M.Sc program this year (2013/14). MSc and PhD programs started in end of 1970s and beginning of 2000s, respectively.  The school is also providing MSc program under summer and Continuing education program (Jijiga, Chiro, Dire Dawa and Harar). At present our school is providing distance education in Agricultural Economics at B.Sc. level.

The objectives of the school are:-

    • to serve the communities by providing program of study that is professionally oriented, comprehensive, relevant to today’s business world, and of up to the standard.
    • to produce Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness and Value chain management graduates who are able to identify economic and value chain management problems and after critical thinking and analysis, generate feasible alternatives and come up with the most appropriate solution;
    •  to produce Agricultural Economist and Agribusiness and Value chain management graduates at different level, who are equipped with analytically, quantitative, managerial and human relations skills to make sound and responsible decisions;
