Student Enterprise Project
GUIDELINES FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE STUDENTS ENTERPRISE PROJECTS (SEP) PROGRAMME AT THE BOTSWANA COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE (BCA)
Background and SEP Objectives:
In response to changes in employment trends in recent times, which show that formal employment for agricultural graduates in the public sector is gradually diminishing, the Botswana College of Agriculture’s mandate was expanded from training for the public sector to training for both the public and the private sector as well as for self employment. In order to fulfill this expanded mandate, the BCA has developed the Student Enterprise Projects training programme. The main objective of this programme is to equip agricultural graduates with entrepreneurial skills that make them better prepared for employment by the private sector or for self employment.
The SEP Reference Committee
The BCA Farm Management Committee will constitute the Reference Committee for the SEP programme. The terms of reference of the reference committees will be:
- To approve project proposals and advise on matters related to the entire SEP programme.
- To propose or receive amendments to proposals on SEP policy guidelines and take appropriate measures in that regard.
Role of Academic Departments
All College departments will be responsible for the selection of supervisors and implementation of the projects that fall within their areas of expertise. However, a participant may have an input in the identification of an individual supervisor. Any department can be requested to assist in the supervision of any project since the running of some projects may require expertise and advice from across the departments. This will ensure that certain departments such as AEE, AEL and BS will not only be consulted for advice but will also actively participate in the supervision of the SEP projects.
